Questions About Graduate Jobs In Dubai Uae

Robert asks…
Canadian Social worker looking for work in Dubai (UAE)?
I have recently graduated in social work and I am very interested in working abroad, specifically in UAE. Under my degree, I can work in various positions like humanitarian, hospitals etc.. But I don’t know how to find jobs in my field or that I would be allowed to work in with my degree. I have googled the hell out of social work in Dubai etc… With no success. I know that it exists. I am missing the right ” key words. Some jobs are for social workers but are not called as such. Any help with finding a Canadian agency that can place you, or sites that may be helpful would be great!!

I’m not sure the term “social worker” is used that often here. You should try to contact various charities, non profits and special needs centres. Here’s a quick list:
Al Noor
Rashid Pediatric
Dubai Autism Centre
Dubai Community Health Centre
You can also check with the department of health and various hospitals such as Al Wasl. Another quick tip, there is a need here for “shadow” teachers. These people are hired to accompany a student with mild special needs (usually attending a mainstream school) and assists them throughout the school day.
Remember you’ll need to be licensed here, so that might be an issue in getting through the door. Good luck, hope I helped!

It’s really more about who you know over there so unless you have a connection, I wouldn’t recommend it.

What if I plan to live in Sharjah and work in Dubai (pros & cons)? If I would want to do business part time, what business would you suggest with a small investment? U should not find too much trouble getting a job in dubai, sharjah is cheaper to live than dubai but u cannot own or drive a car till u have a residence visa and take a driving test which is a long process if ur not british. U will need to have a job arranged to get a residence visa or someone to sponsor u to get a visit visa. If u live in sharjah like a lot of people it is cheaper but travelling to dubai every day is a problem its very busy. If u wanted to open a business u would need a uae national as a partner who would own 51% of the business. Hope this helps a bit and good luck
