Ken asks…

I have a job Interview to Work in Dubai (I live in London)?

exactly two years ago ( I was 18) I got a job in a nice restaurant to be a cocktail waitress in Central London, I was called to start training and within 5 minutes of starting, I just walked out. I panicked. I suffered from immense social anxiety and at the time I felt that was my only option – Avoidance.

Yes I know it’s stupid!

2 years later (Today) I applied for the same job with the same restaurant but For a job in Dubai. I have been called for an interview at the same location that I walked out on two years ago.

The person who is interviewing me is a different person.

What I am worried about is people remembering me and what I did. I feel slightly ashamed but I want this opportunity so bad. I have overcome my anxiety.

Do you think they will recognise me? if any staff still work there from a few years ago?

I was there for 5 minutes.

admin answers:

Go for it. If they remember, just laugh it off to inexperience (if your interview is a success it’s hardly likely you’ll see them again!). Dubai is a beautiful country, you will be kicking yourself if you don’t at least go for the interview. You have absolutely nothing to loose.

P.s. The link will tempt you further! (and be useful when you’re out there)

Charles asks…

i might move to dubai or sharjah but i live in london now.will i be happy?

i may need to move to dubai or sharjah soon in like 3 months with my family. my dads got a job opportunity you see. the issue im worried about is to how different life will be…i don’t know what to expect, and what do i need to know before i go? if anyone has gone through this or is living there atm, please do tell me. im from london, and i live in london atm too.

admin answers:

Please do not worry about a thing. I bet your class mates will be jealous. In case you will visit an international school, you’ll face mixed classes and you do not have to cover up at all. That’s nonsens. Only Muslim women do so. You just have to follow a very easy dress code. Swim wear at the beach/pool and other times just dress “decent”. No super mini, no belly free and no “boops falling out” tops. That’s it.

Your new class mates went through the same you are going through right now. You will meet many british students and hopefully find new friends pretty soon. Maybe you have a hobby you may share with a new friend? Going to the Gym?

The biggest different for you will be that you won’t see boys and girls hanging out in public together. There aren’t no youth clubs/discos either. Clubbing is from age 18+.

Well be open minded and think positive about having the opportunity to live in a foreign country and having the chance to know a different culture.

Shopping opportunities are endless in the UAE and depending on your Dad’s time you all should discover Dubai, Abu Dhabi and the rest of the UAE.

Take care and all the best.

Lizzie asks…

Nursing job in Dubai? experiences?

I am looking at going to Dubai with husband and 13 year old girl to work as an RN in 2009. I am Australian, 40 and have an excellent nursing record and a variety of experience of 15 years. I have a post grad qualification in NICU nursing.

The hospitals generally offer a family accom allowance, free schooling, transport subsidy , flights for family.

What is a reasonable wage to earn (not counting my husbands wage) to live well in Dubai without going overboard. We want to save a decent amount to be able to buy a home when we return to Australia?

Any tips? Also, if I sponser my husband and child then can he look for work over there when he arrives (he is a Firefighter) or will his visa restrict him?

We are looking to make some decent money but also want to go for the experience.

Please visit the link giving below which provides you with information regarding a nursering job in the UAE

http://www.gulfnews.com/uaessentials/residentsguide/working_life/10127872.html

You salary package will pretty much depend on the hospital/clinic etc where you will work. How much living expenses you’ll need depends what will be provided. Do not underestimate the school fees. Just for personal needs I’ll estimate an average of around Dhs 5.000 for 3 persons. This inclues groceries, gas, cosmetics, etc.

You will be able to sponsor your husband and child because you will earn more than the required Dhs 4.000. But as soon as your husband works he will have his own sponsor and your child will be under his sponsorship.

Take care and all the best.

Questions About Dubai Jobs Media

Susan asks…

Media jobs in Dubai?

I currently work in Advertising Sales for a leading television network in India. I have a total of 7 years of sales experience out of which I’ve spent 4 years within my current company. I’m looking for a shift out of Sales but would like to stay within the Broadcast industry.
What kind of opportunities exist within Dubai Media City for someone like me? Also an indicative idea of the payscales involved would be appreciated.

admin answers:

I was employed in Media City for 4+ years so I know a couple things about living and working in Dubai. My advice is to get this guide: ‘Dubai Job Secrets – Fast Track to a Job in Dubai’ by the Niken Group.

It explains how to get a job in Dubai with a focus on the current employment scenario, exact pay packages, industry trends and the lifestyle insights of this tax-free income haven.

These are things a consultant won’t tell you, and only someone who’s worked and lived in Dubai will know.

Ruth asks…

How can I find a job in Dubai Media City?

Is there any recruitment agency that deals specifically with companies in DMC? I have checked http://www.careercentre.ae/ .
There are no job offers on that site. There are hundreds of media companies in DMC and I would like to work in any one of them. Any help in this regard will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

admin answers:

It is better you go on visit visa to Dubai and look for a job.
Also browse the gulfnews website in the classified section.
Mos of the companies do advertise the jobs in their local paper and very few times in any job portals.
