Donna asks…

Where is PR easy to get WA, SA or NSW ?

I am a software Developer / Engineer and have 6-7 years hands on experience in the above field. I am planning to apply for PR, but can someone advice me, where it will be easier to migrate considering the Regional migration option. Considering if I am eligible, where do you think it will be easy to get the PR and also a job later on. Also if I will be able to find good jobs as s/w engg in WA or NSW or SA ? I am planning to apply this week? Currently working in Dubai, UAE. Please let me know the expense also. Thanks in advance for your support.
Hi Ozmaniac, You are right, I have not started the process yet. As my doubt is whether to apply for a state nominated visa. I do not have a job yet. I am still here in Dubai and working.
My doubt is if I should apply for
1) Skilled – Sponsored (Migrant) Visa (Subclass 176) or Skilled – Regional Sponsored (Provisional) Visa (Subclass 475) and
2) which State will be easy to process migration applications (time frame) and which state will have best job possibilities.
3) When I apply for ACS, is it common for all states ? or should I apply to the state i am applying for.!!
Thanks a lot for the advice.
I forgot to mention I have 7 in IELTS. I do not have any issues as long as I have salary to live with my family there in any state. Hence I would like to move as fast as possible, thats y I was having doubt which state will allow the easiest and fastest migration possible. Thanks a lot

I’m a bit confused about what visa you intend applying for this week – it doesn’t sound to me like you’re at that stage yet in the application process.

Regional Sponsored (Provisional) 475 visas can only be applied for after you have obtained a positive skills assessment from the ACS and after you have been granted regional state sponsorship in a state that has your occupation listed on their State Migration Plan (SMP). If this is the visa you have in mind, only South Australia will have much in the way of job opportunities for software developers/engineers as that is the only eligible regional area that includes a decent sized city i.e. Adelaide though Adelaide is unlikely to have many openings. In NSW or WA, work in the cities of Sydney and Perth is excluded from eligibility and there will be very few good jobs in your occupation in the areas that are eligible. The Visa Application Charge (VAC) for a 475 is AUD$2960 and skills assessment with recognition of work experience is $550. You may also need IELTS for the points test – cost depends on where you do the test.

http://www.acs.org.au/index.cfm?action=show&conID=skillassessment ACS skills assessment

Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) visas are employer sponsored and you must have the employer sponsorship before you apply. Jobs in Perth and Adelaide are eligible for RSMS visas and Perth probably offers the largest number of opportunities for you. Cost to the applicant is between AUD$2095 and $3105 depending on where you apply and the employer must pay a $520 nomination charge. No skills assessment will be required and IELTS won’t be necessary if you’re from an English speaking country.

EDIT:
1) If you can pass the points test for a 176 visa and of course if you can get state sponsorship for that visa, a 176 is the visa you should try for as you can work anywhere in the sponsoring state and are not excluded from the capital city. A 176 is also a permanent visa whereas a 475 is only provisional for at least 2 years.

2) The best states for an IT professional will be NSW and Victoria with WA also a possibility but Perth is a much smaller city than Sydney or Melbourne (its economy is booming though). I’m not sure which of those will process your sponsorship application the fastest but that will be listed somewhere on their state migration websites.

3) An ACS assessment is valid in all states.

I am an IT graduate with 74%marks and have an higher diploma in information technology in software engg from NIIT+ 2 years experience as an appllication programmer + 1 year experienc in wipro bpo as a technical associate. Can i get a decent programmer or front office executive or computer trainer/operator job?can my visit visa be changed to working visa?please explain in details.

admin answers:

You stand a better chance to obtain better offers and assess the most favourable one when you are already here. But i would not say that it is that easy for you to find a job here in dubai right now. Especially now Dubai is just recovering from recession impacts and re- employement of all retrenched employees itself is in planning for next 3 years. There is more than requiered amount resource available in this region for IT and related services. It is always advisable to travel with a proper work visa to gulf rather than landing here with a visit VISA and search for a job. I am sure you will find desperation creaping up towards you visa ending period and you might end up in a wrong job. Keep that as a last resort if you find no other ways..
