Questions About Dubai Jobs Ads

Ken asks…

When job ads in Dubai state preferred nationality, do they really mean skin tone?

Hi, i was thinking of applying for a Job in Dubai, i am a British national born and bred here, but unfortunately my Great Great grand parents are from Saudi, so basically i am not white, will this effect my salary or will i be paid the same as other British nationals?
Well lucky for me i am neither Indian nor Paki, Most Arabs tend to think i am from one of several Arab states, But i heard that they pay a salary based on what you would earn in your home country, so i though as a UK national i would be at the to end for expat, then some one told that when they say UK they mean white? Either way Arab Nationalism makes me laugh i mean all it took was 6days for them to get battered. I say Bring back the UMMAH where colour and race dont matter this is what made us strong all them centuries ago

admin answers:

How can I advertise myself to get a new job in Dubai?

I’m a senior exhibition stand designer with a huge portfolio which is online already in a very popular site. I’m not happy with my current company cause we are forced to work on Saturdays too. I’m trying to get a new job with the same salary but sending CVs in responds to ads is not working. Is there any other ways?

Laura asks…

How can I find job oppurtunities in Dubai.?

I have a brother from the Philippines and he is going to Dubai out of desperation to find a job. He will get a Visa once there and I think it’s up to 2 months only. He needs to find a job soon. He knows English and is a good worker. He finished high school, worked on a military ship but has never worked in a company. He earns his living selling items to the tourists or selling pigs. Can you give me advice on what jobs my brother can work in Dubai and if there are any classified ad websites.

admin answers:

Avoid the JobsinDubai.com site…. It seems to be a scam. Read this article: http://www.itp.net/features/details.php?id=3862&category= or try the words ‘scam’ + ‘jobsindubai’ in Google or any search engine.

Do not pay a company to get you a job in Dubai. It is forbidden by law here in the UAE. That is why scam sites/agencies are located outside Dubai.

There are many jobs to be found at jobsites and recruitment agencies. Also a lot ‘free ad’ sites that have a jobsection, find 12 classified style websites on this page: http://www.startpagedubai.com/jobs.htm

About the advice for a job: if he is a good worker he might look for a cleaning job and if his English is decent a security company could be an option.

Ruth asks…

Hello im a student from New york City im 24 years old. im very interested in relocating to dubai?

i don’t really no anyone out there and have no job. I want to post an ad saying that im willing to work for free at any hotel hospital nightclub or business in exchange for airfare and room and board! do you know where i can post that where the people of dubai can see? Dubai is a city of billionaires so hopefully they would be interested in my gig. thank you so much for the help.

admin answers:

First of all, are you an American citizen? If so, you will need to have professional experience and a degree (unless your experience is very impressive). You will not see an American working for free, bar tending or cleaning hotel rooms anywhere in the gulf. Americans that go there are normally professionals (business people, managers, teachers, executives, etc.) and they typically get very nice salaries.
There are a number of job sites you can browse in Dubai, however it’s best to actually go there and network with people personally. You can google the job sites or go directly to a company web site that you are interested in joining to see open positions in Dubai.

Living in Dubai………….?

How much money would I need to earn per year in Dubai to live pretty comfortably?
What type of Job should I train for?

Is It cheaper to live in Dubai than the UK?

Thank you :-)

admin answers:

Hi! :) I’m moving to the UAE in August and am going to be there for 3 years (min). I’m a Science/Education graduate and I got a job teaching middle school maths/science at an international school there. I’m getting about 130,000AED p/a (keep in mind I have no expereince in the field) – all tax free which is SWEET. That salary increases every year and they pay me a lump sum once my contract is up too :) The school is providing accomodation and giving me the money to fly home every year for the summer (I’m Australian)… Oh and if I don’t want to go home then they give me the cash for the plane ticket and I can do whatever I want :D

I have been to Dubai and Abu Dhabi before, and trust me it isn’t THAT bad if you’re worried about culture and what-not. Just don’t go to a brothel or walk around the streets drunk and you’ll stay out of trouble. The only thing thats annoying me about going there is they have pretty tough internet censorship, but there are ways to get around that.

If you seriously want to go, I would recommend teaching. It is an easy qualification to get, great hours and you get paid holidays. Plus the kids there aren’t little shits that talk back like they are here (or in the UK :P ) so it makes your job a whole lot easier. You’ll find a lot of support from the other staff members. Also, a part of Arab culture is to be very generous so the parents will give you awesome presents for teaching their kids :P (my folks are Egyptian… I know these things lol)

Oh, and with living expenses, well the living expenses in the UAE is pretty high compared to a lot of countries but it is still cheaper than the UK – my ex boyfriend was English so I know :)

The only thing I’d try and find out first is whether you need to pay tax once you go ack to the UK. I know here in Australia, if you work overseas for over 2 years you don’t have to pay any tax HERE upon arrival.

Oh, there also is this webpage which is REALLY good. Says a lot about cultural differences, expenses, income etc etc: http://www.dubaifaqs.com/

Anyways, hope this helps! Feel free to message if you have any other questions!! :D
