Questions About Dubai Jobs It

Thomas asks…

My dubai job contract says that if I leave the job before three years,I will have to pay visa charges?

Yeah It says i need to pay visa charges if I leave within three years and also bear OTHER EXPENSES.
What liabilities could I face? Im planning to leave in 6 months after joining? How serious are they about the above mentioned rule….?Im an American citizen…

admin answers:

If you work for the private sector and fall under UAE Labor Law, Article 116 of the same applies:

Article 116
Where a contract is revoked by the worker for reasons other than those specified in
Article (121), he shall be required to compensate the employer for any damage the
latter sustains as a result, provided that the amount of compensation shall not exceed
half a month wage for three months or for the remaining period of the contract,
whichever is shorter, unless otherwise stipulated in the contract.

Please ask your HR department what’s meant by “other expenses”, which you should have done before signing your contract anyway.

Be also aware that you will receive a one year work ban.

Carol asks…

As a uk national do you think it would be crazy to just fly dubai job hunting.?

I have been a construction foreman here in the uk for many years.Involved in high rise construction.with all the work going on there i am looking to find out as much as possible before going.i reside outside the uk now and free to work anywhere but dubai i think offers the money..any info would be great.

admin answers:

My answer to your question is based purely on experience and does not reflect my opinion nor personal belief. I have been in Dubai for 8 years and now shifted to Abu Dhabi.

If you are a white english speaking native UK national – go ahead and visit Dubai and you will find yourself employed in the first 2 weeks of your stay and I’m not kidding. This is the reality in Dubai and by just visiting western bars and getting your networking (friendly chats) work for you – you will be struggling in the coming weeks to schedule an interview.

You can be a Site Engineer or even a Site Manager. Forget abou the educational background or degree – what matter most is your experience and race (not nationality). You are looking for a possible gross monthly income of US$10 to US$15 Thousand Tax-Free.

Now, if you belong to any enthnic group having a UK passport and nationality – then don’t. Apply and ensure that you have your job prior to arriving in the UAE.

This is a ground reality check for any interested worker here in the UAE.

Goodluck !

Maria asks…

Questions About Dubai Jobs Lost

Sandy asks…

i worked in dubai for 3 years lost job due to crisis now working in another gcc country i had loan and credit?

I worked in dubai for 3 years lost job due to crisis (2008) now in another gcc country (saudi) since 2009 i had loan and credit card not paid will there be any problem in future

admin answers:

No problem! Overseas credit has nothing to do with USA credit. Creditors overseas do not report to the the three credit bureaus. The people in Dubai may find out where you are and try to collect but they don’t report to dubai’s credit agencies either.
You are safe. Forget about it. When you get back to the states they may even try to collect so dispute it based on the requirement by law that says all credit must me reported by companies doing business in the USA not overseas.
Also there is a statute of limitations: four years to seven years

Jenny asks…

i lost my job in dubai i scape and i didn’t pay my credit card personal loan and mortgage?

now i want to go other country it will not make me problem in future?
what can i do i have no money to pay if i staid in dubai they put me in the prison and i want to know what is the Solution ?tnx

admin answers:

You need to get some local advice.
I can advise about the UK but it won’t be accurate to Dubai.
Debts can follow a UK citizen within the EU and about 40 other countries. I’m sure Dubai will have similar recipriocal arrangements.

I have no idea what the Dubai debt and bankruptcy laws are though, might be an idea for you to find out if you don’t intend to return soon and you don’t this to follow you..

Joseph asks…

how is the economic and general job situation in Dubai?

Just wanted to check whether Dubai has come out of the global recession? I heard from some of my friends that many people are still losing their jobs in Dubai. Is this true??

admin answers:

No country came out of the recession yet. But if effected jobwise will depend pretty much what field you are working in.
Fields not effected are i. E. The medical field, the education sector and many others. Right now you may avoid applying for jobs in the construction and real estate sector unless you choose to work in Abu Dhabi.
